Freddie Mac Honors Latino YouthsFreddie Mac recently joined NBC4 and Telemundo64 to celebrate Latino youths in the Metropolitan Washington area and honor the top winners of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. The Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest, sponsored by Freddie Mac, is designed to educate and further stimulate interest and pride in Hispanic culture among Latino youths. This year’s “Being Latino in the United States Is the Best of Both Worlds” contest theme attracted more than 100 entries. “Each of you represents a promise for the future,” Maxine B. Baker, Vice President of Community Relations and President and CEO of the Freddie Mac Foundation, told contest honorees, before introducing winner Alexandra Gutierrez whose essay, “The Merging of Two Worlds,” explores her experience growing up in a bicultural family. “Thank you for reminding us that in our diversity, we are also much the same. Truly, the best of all worlds includes the love of family and the pride we take in our children,” Baker told Gutierrez. Gutierrez, who graduated from Langley High School in McLean, Virginia last spring and is currently attending Harvard College, received a laptop computer and $2,000. Jessica Escobar, Brendan Supulveda and Vanessa Del Aguila received second, third and fourth place awards in the contest.
