Freddie Mac Volunteers Build Homes in DC
 |
| More than 800 Freddie Mac employees teamed up with DC Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for deserving families in DC. |
Thanks to the recent efforts of hundreds of employees, Freddie Mac made a real difference in the communities around us during Making a Community (MAC) Week.
This year's event increased Freddie Mac's reach and gave employees the opportunity to make an even bigger impact by lasting two weeks instead of one. From June 2-13, employees across the nation worked side-by-side, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations to strengthen and revitalize our communities in numerous ways.
In the Washington, DC Area
During MAC Week, employees in the Washington metropolitan region worked on numerous initiatives. Volunteers:
-
Worked with DC Habitat for Humanity to help build six homes in an underserved Northeast DC neighborhood. Volunteers performed a wide array of tasks including measuring, hammering, hauling, and lifting materials needed to construct the homes.
-
Donated and sorted food items to benefit individuals and families in need. More than 25 containers of large supplies of non-perishable food will help to feed many who are homeless in our community.
-
Assembled 100 welcome kits for residents of shelters and transitional housing who are moving into permanent housing. The beneficiaries included DC Habitat for Humanity, our Freddie Mac's Hoops for the Homeless beneficiaries, and other nonprofit organizations in the region.
In the Regions
Many employees in Freddie Mac's regional offices worked with local nonprofits to improve the quality of life for families in their communities.
-
Atlanta employees worked with Atlanta ToolBank to renovate a home.
-
In Chicago, employees worked with Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) to paint and repair walls in common areas and help landscape two multi-unit buildings.
-
In Dallas, employees worked with Rebuilding Together Dallas to rehab a home in an older, established neighborhood. The scope of work included replacing rotted siding and doors, painting, constructing handrails, making energy-efficient updates, and replacing the air-conditioning/heating system.
-
New York City employees worked with New York City Habitat for Humanity to assist in the construction of a MultiFamily unit (41 families) in a Brooklyn neighborhood. Volunteers and homeowners installed sheet rock, drywalled, and built closets.
