Freddie Mac Welcomes the Urban League ConferenceThe National Urban League is coming to Washington, DC from July 27-31 for its annual conference. As chair of the host city committee, Freddie Mac is rolling out the welcome mat for its long-time partner and the 15,000 attendees the conference is expected to generate. This year's theme is “Celebrating 95 Years of Empowering Communities and Changing Lives” and is expected to draw attendees from across the nation and region. Highlights of this year's conference are an interactive exhibit hall with five specialty zones including one on Homeownership as well as numerous educational and networking opportunities such as a gala, luncheons, seminars and concerts. “I want to congratulate the Urban League on its significant accomplishments over the past 95 years. The Urban League has become part of the fabric of communities across America, building a long tradition of empowering communities and changing lives. At Freddie Mac, we share this commitment to strengthening communities and people,” explained Ralph F. Boyd, Jr., executive vice president, Community Relations, Freddie Mac and host city committee chair for the National Urban League Conference. As a host and sponsor, Freddie Mac employees from a variety of business areas will be on-site holding seminars about credit education, financial literacy, affordable mortgage products used by lenders, and the company’s work to help more families realize the dream of homeownership. Also, the Freddie Mac Foundation which is focused on improving the lives of children vulnerable to poor outcomes is sponsoring the Children’s Zone as part of its commitment to empowering families. For years, Freddie Mac has worked with the Urban League at the national and local levels, to empower African-American families. A key way is working with the Urban League to reduce the homeownership gap between non-minority families and minority families by increasing homeownership opportunities. Together, Freddie Mac and the Urban League have been educating families across the nation about the importance of good credit through Freddie Mac’s classroom based consumer credit education initiative called CreditSmart. Most recently, both organizations launched the program in Wichita as part of Freddie Mac’s 10-city, $800,000 campaign with the Urban League. The Urban League is also one of the national partners in Freddie Mac’s “Homeownership: Let the TRUTH move you education campaign” to dispel common homeownership myths that are keeping some families from even considering buying a home.
