Corporate Responsibility
Freddie Mac is not only recognized for our leadership as a business, but also as a partner with the community. Teaming up with other similarly committed organizations, we encourage and advance homeownership-based revitalization efforts, neighborhood by neighborhood, all across America. We also make home possible for more families by bringing financial literacy, homebuyer education and anti-predatory lending information to communities across the nation. Through an extensive philanthropic program, anchored by the Freddie Mac Foundation, we have invested to improve the lives of children and their families and communities nationwide. For further information on these and other topics, please see the information below or click on the topic headings. Affordable HousingCreated by Congress, Freddie Mac's job is to ensure a reliable supply of funds to mortgage lenders in support of homeownership and rental housing. We attract capital from around the world to finance housing in America, and we constantly innovate to deliver it as effectively as possible. As a result, mortgage rates are lower, 30-year fixed-rate financing is plentiful, and borrowers get loan approvals in minutes. Community ProgramsFreddie Mac is dedicated to promoting the stability, liquidity and affordability of the housing market, helping millions of families to own a home of their own and obtain affordable rental housing. In fact, our strong and steady support of mortgage lending keeps the housing market strong, which in turn provides crucial support to the national economy. Though we don’t issue loans directly to individuals, we have made homes possible for more people by helping to lower mortgage rates by an average of 1/2%, and renewing and increasing our commitment to fulfilling the affordable housing component of our mission under our new leadership, including major initiatives to increase our purchases of mortgages supporting affordable housing. Corporate CitizenshipAs the Washington DC region's largest corporate giver, Freddie Mac, along with the Freddie Mac Foundation has, to date, invested more than $321 million to make a difference in people's lives. However, our corporate citizenship efforts not only include philanthropy, but also a wide variety of community, housing, diversity and volunteerism programs. In addition, we best demonstrate our commitment to being a good corporate citizen by valuing and respecting our employees and creating for them an environment that encourages innovation and rewards success. Corporate GivingGiving back, helping others, and leading the way are part of our company's culture and our success. Freddie Mac's Corporate Giving program supports the company's mission of making the dream of decent, accessible housing a reality – especially for minority and underserved families. Through donations, Corporate Giving supports housing, partnerships, and civic programs to strengthen the communities where we live and work. DiversityTo ensure the achievement of Freddie Mac's vital housing mission, we must foster an increasingly diverse work culture where all employees have the opportunity to be included, add value and contribute to their fullest potential. Employee VolunteerismAt Freddie Mac, helping those in need is more than a policy – it is our culture. From new staff through senior management, people donate their time and share their abilities. And they do so enthusiastically, even in the face of today's fast-paced lives and crowded schedules. Our role is to make volunteerism easy for employees. We help match individuals' interests with volunteer opportunities, supporting their efforts to take part and even to lead. In the process, our employee volunteers contribute to making strong homes and communities possible. The Freddie Mac FoundationOne of our more visible efforts in the community is the Freddie Mac Foundation, formed specifically to turn our desire to help into concentrated community action. As the flagship of Freddie Mac's philanthropy program, the Foundation is dedicated to opening doors to hope and opportunity for children, youth and their families. Political ContributionsFreddie Mac is legally prohibited from expending funds in connection with election-related activities, including contributions to political parties and to candidates for federal, state and local offices. The company has strict procedures relating to contributions to non-profit organizations, including trade organizations, to prevent any Freddie Mac contribution to a third party being used to support political activities. However, Freddie Mac is permitted to sponsor a political action committee, or PAC. Accordingly, the company established FreddiePAC to give employees a collective voice in supporting candidates who believe in our mission and support our congressional charter. Freddie Mac does not contribute directly to FreddiePAC, but does pay the costs of administering FreddiePAC, as is permitted by applicable law. FreddiePAC's contributions are reported to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly basis. Educating and Protecting ConsumersFreddie Mac brings the world's finest housing system to one in six homeowners in America. While we don't offer consumers mortgage loans directly, we do help consumers understand the ins and outs of the mortgage lending system so they can take part in the dream of homeownership.
